WebTV for Windows 98 can be installed as part of the Windows 98-installation process. If you have added a TV Tuner Card to your existing Windows 98 system you can install WebTV with the following steps.
On the Start Menu go to "Settings" and then Control Panel
Click on "Add / Remove Programs" then click on the Windows Setup tab
Windows will search your computer for installed components, then present you with a list of optional programs to install. WebTV for Windows should be located near the bottom of this list.
Click on the WebTV for Windows check box to select it for installation. To install WebTV for Windows 98, your system will need approximately 31 MB of hard-disk space.
In addition to WebTV there is an optional component called "Wave Top" that can be installed. WaveTop is a free service that offers high-value information over the web on the Public Broadcasting System's VBI signal. VBI is the Vertical Blanking Interval; this is a portion of the television signal used to send data along with the video and sound.
The information WaveTop offers will mainly consist of major newspapers and other consumer news services. Since the Public Broadcasting Service's signal reaches 99 percent of all domestic households over broadcast airwaves or via cable, this information will be readily available to you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Installation for WaveTop will require you to reboot at least twice, depending on hardware configuration.
To include WaveTop in your WebTV installation, do the following:
Make sure the WebTV for Windows option is selected, then choose details.
Click the check box next to "WaveTop Data Broadcasting"
Click OK to Return to the Add/Remove Programs screen, then click OK again to finalize the installation of WebTV for Windows and WaveTop.
Running WebTV
After the Installation you should see a new Icon on your Quick Launch Bar. Click this icon to run WebTV for Windows.
